With recent growth of our facility size and case mix we are expanding our evidence-based service in Drug and Alcohol (D&A) inpatient treatment/therapy. The position of Addiction Medicine Specialist is pivotal to this service and we welcome you to this role.
You will lead the treatment and therapy framework, provide support to any new medical staff and lead multidisciplinary decision making. You hold a specialist qualification relevant to this service and have past clinical experience in managing patients with D&A problems including dependence and withdrawal.
In the role you will work with the multidisciplinary team to ensure assessment, planning and implementation of clinical management of persons seeking admission for problems relating to the use of alcohol or other drugs.
There will also be extension of the role throughout the facilities other services which may include special medical advice to psychiatrists in relation to their patients, second opinions, becoming a member of The Geelong Clinic Medical Advisory Committee and/or support available from our Addiction Registrar who is part of the local accredited training program.

Located on the Eastern side of Geelong, we’re a leading private psychiatric facility that specialises in inpatient and outpatient mental health services.
Here, highly skilled and qualified psychiatrists, clinicians and other mental health professionals work collaboratively to ensure that each patient’s experience is the best it can be.
The range of inpatient specific programs includes Addictive Behaviours Program, Detoxification program, EMDR, Eating Disorder programs, Day programs and Outreach. We have procedural suites offering TMS and ECT. Our Allied Health team include psychologists, social workers, occupational therapists, exercise physiologists, music therapists, dietitians and art therapists.
We are well supported by a Professorial Unit lead by Professor Michael Berk and two FTE of Registrar rotations in conjunction with The University Hospital, Barwon Health.

We have recently undergone a $16 million expansion project to upgrade our staff and patient amenities and have an additional 27 beds with a total of 73 inpatient beds. An expansion of outpatient consulting suites to 23 has also taken place as part of our Brownfields project.

Your own consulting suite
You’re invited to either commence or develop your existing private practice, with potential to secure your own consulting suite. You’ll receive skilled administrative support, access to full digital clinical records and a high volume of referrals generated via our established referral pathways.

Requirements
You must be able to provide evidence of:
- Fellow of Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists/Physicians (FRANZCP) or (fAChAM)
- Certificate of Advanced Training in Addiction
- Significant experience in Addictions Medicine or Addictions Psychiatry
- Full working rights in Australia including AHPRA registration
